Local SEO that puts you in the map pack where your trucks already go
Google Business Profile, service-area pages, reviews and citations, planned around the cities and counties you actually serve. For home-service companies that need "near me" searches to become booked jobs.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Service-area and storefront businesses competing in one or more metros
- Time to first signal
- Profile and citation gains in weeks; map pack movement in two to four months
- Typical scope
- GBP buildout, city and service pages, review program, monthly local reporting
What is Local SEO and how is it different from regular SEO?
Local SEO is the work that gets a business shown for searches with local intent, such as "roof repair near me" or "plumber in Plano." It covers the Google Business Profile that feeds the map pack, pages for each city and service you offer, reviews, and consistent business listings. Regular SEO targets the broader organic results; Local SEO targets the three map results and the nearby organic listings under them.
For most home-service companies the map pack is where the phone calls come from, because the searcher is ready to hire. That is why we start there, then build the city and service pages that support it.
Who this is for
- Roofing, HVAC, plumbing and landscaping companies that serve several towns from one shop
- Businesses that show up in the map pack in their home city but nowhere else they serve
- Owners paying per lead on marketplaces who want a pipeline they own instead
- Multi-location companies whose profiles and pages contradict each other
What you get
Named deliverables, so the monthly invoice always maps to work you can see.
Google Business Profile buildout
Primary and secondary categories, every service described, service areas, attributes, photos, products and Q&A completed, then kept active with weekly posts.
Service-area and city pages
One page per city and service combination worth having, with real local detail: permits, housing stock, neighborhoods, seasonal issues. No spun duplicates.
Review program
A repeatable text or email ask after every job, scripts your team will actually send, response templates for every star rating, and flagging of reviews that break Google's rules.
Citation and NAP cleanup
Consistent name, address and phone across the data aggregators and the directories that matter for your trade. Duplicates removed, old addresses retired.
Local schema and on-page signals
LocalBusiness and Service schema, embedded map, hours and service area on the site, and internal links from city pages to the services they sell.
Local reporting
Geo-grid rank tracking per city, Google Business Profile calls, directions and website clicks, and organic leads by city in GA4, in one monthly report.
How the work runs
In order. Each step produces something you can review before the next one starts.
- 1
Local audit and competitor benchmark
We audit your profile, listings and site, check map pack rankings on a grid across your service area, and benchmark the three competitors who outrank you in each city.
- 2
Service-area plan you approve
Which cities and services to target first, ranked by job value and how beatable the competition is. Nothing is built until you have signed off on the list.
- 3
Profile and listings
The Google Business Profile fully built, duplicates removed, citations corrected, and the review request process running inside your team's workflow.
- 4
City and service pages
Pages published in batches, each with local detail and a clear call to action, each reviewed by you before it goes live.
- 5
Reviews, posts and expansion
Weekly posts, review responses within a business day, and the next tier of cities added as the geo-grid shows the first tier holding.
Local SEO, local ads and lead marketplaces compared
Most home-service companies use more than one. Here is what each one costs you beyond the invoice.
| Dimension | Local SEO | Local Services Ads / PPC | Lead marketplaces |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you pay | Monthly program; the profile and pages keep working after it | Per click or per lead, for as long as the budget runs | Per lead, often shared with several competitors |
| Who owns the asset | You: the profile, pages and reviews are yours | You keep the account; visibility stops when spend stops | The marketplace owns the customer relationship |
| Time to first lead | Weeks for profile fixes, months for competitive map pack spots | Days once approved | Days |
| Lead quality | Searchers who chose you from the map or a city page | Varies with targeting and negative keywords | Often price shoppers contacting several pros at once |
| Best use | The durable base of local demand | Filling gaps while SEO builds, or seasonal pushes | Topping up a slow week, not building a business |
How we measure it
- Map pack position by city on a geo-grid, tracked monthly for your priority searches
- Google Business Profile actions: calls, direction requests, website clicks and messages
- Organic leads by city and service in GA4 and call tracking
- Review velocity and response time, plus citation accuracy across the major directories
What this cannot do
- Google decides the map pack radius; a business rarely ranks in the map for a city far from its address or service area
- Service-area businesses without a storefront must hide their address, which limits some map features
- Reviews come from your customers; we build the process, but we cannot write or buy reviews
- Local SEO does not replace a good website; slow pages and a hidden phone number waste the visibility it earns
Local SEO questions, answered
Direct answers first. If your question is not here, ask it on the call.
How long does Local SEO take to work?
Profile corrections, category changes and citation fixes can move map pack visibility within a few weeks. Competitive map pack positions in a large metro usually take two to four months of consistent work on reviews, pages and listings. We track a geo-grid monthly so you see movement by neighborhood before it shows up in the call count.
Can I rank in the map pack for cities where I do not have an office?
Sometimes, within a reasonable distance of your location, if your service area, reviews and city pages support it. Google weights proximity heavily, so the further a city is from your address, the harder the map pack becomes. For distant cities we target organic rankings for the city page instead, which are not distance-limited in the same way.
What are citations and do they still matter?
Citations are listings of your business name, address and phone number on directories and data aggregators. They matter less than they once did, but inconsistent ones still confuse Google and customers. We clean up the ones that matter for your trade and area, then move on. We do not sell citation volume.
Do I need a page for every city I serve?
No. You need pages for the cities where there is enough search demand and job value to justify a genuinely useful page. Thin pages that only swap the city name are a liability. We rank cities by opportunity and write pages with real local detail: permits, common home styles, neighborhoods and seasonal problems.
How do you get more reviews?
By making the ask automatic. We set up a text or email request after the job closes, write the scripts your team actually sends, and give you a response playbook for every review, including the bad ones. Review volume is yours to earn; we make it easy and consistent.
What is the difference between Local SEO and Google Business Profile optimization?
Google Business Profile optimization is one component of Local SEO: the profile itself. Local SEO also covers your website's city and service pages, citations, reviews, local schema and links. If the profile is the main gap, start with the GBP service. If you need to rank across a whole service area, Local SEO is the full program.
