AI SEO: one plan for Google, Maps and the AI assistants your customers now ask
Search is splitting across Google results, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. We run SEO, Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization from a single roadmap, so you are not paying three vendors to work against each other.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Businesses that want to be found however the customer searches, without running three separate programs
- Time to first signal
- Technical and answer-block gains in weeks; AI mention tracking from month one; compounding over quarters
- Typical scope
- Combined audit, quarterly priorities, SEO + AEO + GEO execution, one unified report
What is AI SEO and do I need it in addition to regular SEO?
AI SEO is one program that covers traditional search rankings, direct answers (featured snippets, People Also Ask, AI Overviews) and visibility inside AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. You do not need it in addition to SEO; it replaces the idea of buying SEO, AEO and GEO separately. The same pages, schema and authority work feed all three surfaces when they are planned together, so one roadmap costs less effort than three.
In practice the disciplines overlap more than vendors admit. A service page with a direct 60-word answer, clear pricing factors and FAQ schema ranks in Google, gets pulled into People Also Ask, and gives an AI assistant something accurate to quote. We write it once and structure it for all three.
Who this is for
- Owners who have heard a customer say "ChatGPT told me to call you" and want more of that
- Businesses already doing SEO that want AI visibility added without a second agency
- Companies in competitive metros where the organic results alone no longer carry the lead volume
- Multi-service businesses that need one set of priorities instead of three competing reports
What you get
Named deliverables, so the monthly invoice always maps to work you can see.
Three-surface visibility audit
How you appear in Google results, in snippets and AI Overviews, and inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for the prompts your buyers use. One document, one fix list.
Unified keyword, question and prompt map
Searches, questions and conversational prompts mapped to the same set of pages, so each page knows which surfaces it is built to win.
Pages structured for all three
Service and guide pages written answer-first, with pricing factors, comparisons and FAQ, HowTo and Service schema that search engines and AI systems can both parse.
Entity and authority foundation
A consistent organization graph: About page, author profiles, schema linking your business to its services, locations and profiles, plus mentions on the sources AI systems read.
Quarterly priority reset
Each quarter we re-rank what to do next across SEO, AEO and GEO based on which surface is moving leads, so effort follows results.
One report for every surface
Search Console and GA4 alongside snippet ownership and tracked AI prompts. Rankings, answers won, AI mentions and leads on the same page.
How the work runs
In order. Each step produces something you can review before the next one starts.
- 1
Audit across Google and AI assistants
We benchmark organic rankings, snippet and People Also Ask ownership, and how each major assistant describes and recommends your business today. You see the gaps side by side.
- 2
One roadmap, three surfaces
A 90-day plan with pages, schema, technical work and authority tasks, each tagged with the surfaces it serves. You approve it before work starts.
- 3
Foundation first
Technical health, entity schema and the About and author pages that make your business legible to crawlers and language models alike.
- 4
Answer-first content in batches
Service pages, cost guides and comparison pages shipped weekly, each reviewed by you, each structured to rank, be quoted and be cited.
- 5
Track, learn, re-prioritize
Monthly tracking of rankings, answer features and AI prompts; quarterly re-planning so the next 90 days chase whatever is producing leads.
Buying SEO, AEO and GEO separately versus one AI SEO plan
The work overlaps heavily. Splitting it across vendors multiplies cost and creates conflicting instructions for the same page.
| Dimension | Three separate programs | AI SEO (combined) |
|---|---|---|
| Content | Three briefs for the same page, often conflicting | One page written once, structured for every surface |
| Schema and entity work | Duplicated, or skipped because nobody owns it | Owned once; feeds rankings, snippets and AI understanding |
| Reporting | Three reports with three definitions of success | One report: rankings, answers won, AI mentions, leads |
| Prioritization | Each vendor argues for its own channel | Effort follows whichever surface is producing leads this quarter |
| Cost of coordination | Falls on you | Falls on us |
How we measure it
- Organic clicks, impressions and leads from Search Console and GA4
- Featured snippet, People Also Ask and AI Overview presence for your mapped questions
- A tracked set of buyer prompts checked monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity: whether you are mentioned, how you are described and who else is listed
- Referral traffic and leads from AI assistants in GA4, where the platforms pass a referrer
What this cannot do
- No one can guarantee an AI citation or a ranking; assistants change models and sources without notice
- AI assistant results vary by user, location and phrasing, so tracking is directional rather than exact
- Businesses with few reviews, thin About pages or inconsistent listings take longer for AI systems to trust
- AI referral traffic is still a small share for most local businesses; the near-term payoff is in Google, with AI visibility compounding behind it
AI SEO questions, answered
Direct answers first. If your question is not here, ask it on the call.
Is AI SEO different from GEO?
GEO is one part of it. Generative Engine Optimization focuses on being understood and cited by AI assistants. AI SEO is the combined program: traditional SEO for rankings, AEO for direct answers, and GEO for AI assistants, planned and reported together. If you only need the AI assistant piece, the GEO service is the narrower option.
Will AI Overviews take my traffic?
For some informational searches, yes; fewer people click when the answer is on the results page. For service searches with buying intent, the business named in the Overview or the map pack still gets the call. Our plan targets the questions where being the quoted source wins the lead and tracks zero-click impressions so you can see the trade-off.
How do you track whether ChatGPT recommends us?
We maintain a list of buyer prompts for your services and metro, run them on a schedule across the major assistants, and log whether you are mentioned, how you are described and who else is named. Results vary by session, so we report trends over months rather than single screenshots.
Do I need new content or can you reuse what we have?
Usually both. Existing pages are restructured first: answer blocks, clearer headings, pricing factors, FAQ schema. New pages fill the gaps in the question and prompt map. Rewriting what already has some authority is faster than starting from zero.
How is this reported?
One monthly report. Rankings and organic leads from Search Console and GA4, snippet and People Also Ask ownership for mapped questions, the AI prompt tracker, and the work completed. Each quarter we show which surface moved leads and reset the priorities.
Can we start with SEO and add AI later?
Yes, and many clients do. The foundation is shared, so nothing is wasted. The reason to combine from the start is cost: structuring a page for answers and AI citation while it is being written is cheaper than revisiting it later.
