WordPress SEO done inside the platform, not bolted on
WordPress can be excellent for SEO or quietly terrible, depending on how it is configured. We set up the platform correctly, fix what the theme and plugins broke, then run the content and authority work that actually moves rankings.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Any business on WordPress that wants rankings handled by people who also know the platform
- Time to first signal
- Configuration and technical fixes in the first month; competitive rankings over three to six months
- Typical scope
- WordPress SEO audit, configuration, technical fixes, content and authority program, monthly reporting
How do I do SEO on a WordPress website?
Start with configuration: a single well-set-up SEO plugin, clean permalinks, tag and media archives set to noindex, an XML sitemap submitted to Search Console, and a theme that outputs proper headings and fast pages. Then the real work: service and location pages that answer what buyers search for, schema that describes the business, internal links that connect it all, and mentions from relevant sites. WordPress makes the mechanics easy; it does not do the strategy for you.
The most common WordPress SEO problems we find are not exotic: two SEO plugins fighting, hundreds of indexed tag pages, attachment pages live, a page builder outputting six H1s, and a sitemap full of URLs that redirect. Clearing those is the first month. Ranking for competitive services is the months after.
Who this is for
- Businesses on WordPress whose site looks fine but does not rank for its own services
- Companies whose previous agency installed an SEO plugin and called it SEO
- Sites with thousands of indexed URLs that are mostly tags, archives and attachments
- Owners who want one partner for both the website and the rankings
What you get
Named deliverables, so the monthly invoice always maps to work you can see.
WordPress SEO audit
Plugin configuration, permalinks, indexing rules, sitemap, theme markup, schema output, speed and crawl waste, with every finding tied to a specific setting or file.
Platform configuration
One SEO plugin set up correctly, archives and attachments handled, canonical and robots rules, breadcrumbs, sitemap cleaned and submitted, redirects managed in one place.
Theme and plugin fixes
Heading structure, image alt handling, duplicate title output, slow plugins and render-blocking assets fixed in the theme or replaced.
Schema that matches the page
Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ and Breadcrumb schema generated from your content, validated, and kept consistent with what the page says.
Content and page program
Service, location and guide pages written answer-first and published in batches, with internal links that make the site's structure obvious to Google.
Authority and monthly reporting
Citations, directories and relevant mentions earned month over month, with Search Console and GA4 reporting that ties the work to leads.
How the work runs
In order. Each step produces something you can review before the next one starts.
- 1
Audit the install
We review every SEO-relevant setting, plugin and template, compare the crawl with Search Console, and list what is misconfigured, duplicated or slow.
- 2
Roadmap you approve
Configuration fixes first, then technical, then the page plan and authority work, in a 90-day sequence with dates.
- 3
Configure and fix
Plugin, indexing, sitemap, redirects, schema and theme fixes shipped on staging and deployed, with crawl checks after.
- 4
Pages and links
New and rewritten pages published weekly, each reviewed by you, each linked into the site structure.
- 5
Authority and iteration
Mentions earned, content refreshed from Search Console data, and the next quarter planned around what is moving leads.
An SEO plugin versus WordPress SEO as a service
The plugin is a tool. It does nothing until someone decides what every setting should be and what the pages should say.
| Dimension | SEO plugin alone | WordPress SEO program |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Gives you fields for titles, descriptions and a sitemap | Configures the platform, fixes the theme, plans and publishes content, earns authority |
| Indexing control | Available, but defaults often leave archives indexed | Set deliberately per content type and verified in Search Console |
| Schema | Generic output that may not match the page | Built from your content and validated |
| Content | A traffic-light score for keyword use | Pages written to buyer questions, reviewed by you |
| Reporting | None | Monthly, from Search Console and GA4, tied to leads |
How we measure it
- Indexed-page coverage: valid pages up, excluded and duplicate URLs down, in Search Console
- Organic clicks and impressions by page and query family
- Rankings for the services and cities on your keyword map
- Organic leads: forms, calls and chats attributed in GA4
What this cannot do
- No one can guarantee rankings; Google decides and changes its mind often
- Configuration fixes are quick, but competitive rankings still take months of content and authority work
- Heavy page builders and bloated themes limit what configuration can fix; some sites need a rebuild
- Content needs your sign-off on claims and pricing factors, so approval speed affects the pace
WordPress SEO questions, answered
Direct answers first. If your question is not here, ask it on the call.
Which SEO plugin is best for WordPress?
Any of the major, well-maintained ones works when configured properly; the choice matters less than the settings. We standardize on one per site, remove duplicates, and set indexing, sitemap, schema and breadcrumb rules deliberately. Running two at once is one of the most common problems we fix.
Is WordPress good for SEO?
Yes, when configured well. It outputs clean HTML, supports every schema type, gives full control over URLs and content, and has the broadest plugin and theme ecosystem. The same flexibility lets a poor setup create thousands of junk URLs and slow pages, which is why the audit comes first.
Do I need to noindex tags and categories?
Usually tags and attachment pages, yes; they rarely earn traffic and dilute the crawl. Categories can stay indexed if they are curated and useful. We decide per content type based on what Search Console shows, rather than applying a blanket rule.
Can you work with my existing theme and plugins?
In most cases. We fix configuration and markup issues within the current theme and only recommend replacing it when it is too slow or badly built to rank. Plugins that duplicate functionality or slow the site are consolidated with your approval.
How is this different from your general SEO service?
The strategy is the same; this service adds platform expertise. We implement directly in WordPress, fix theme and plugin problems ourselves, and tune the install rather than handing specs to a developer. If you are on WordPress, this is the SEO service you want.
What results should I expect and when?
Configuration and crawl fixes often show in Search Console within weeks as excluded URLs drop and valid pages rise. Rankings for competitive service terms build over three to six months as pages and authority accumulate. We report both monthly so you can see the trajectory.
What we need to scope the project
- The goal of the site: more calls, quotes, bookings or orders
- New build or redesign, and the current platform if any
- Approximate page count and whether you sell online
- Examples of sites you like and your timeline
What happens next
- 1We review the details within one business day.
- 2A 20-minute scoping call to confirm pages, integrations and timeline.
- 3A fixed-price proposal with deliverables and a schedule you can hold us to.
