Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Get It Reinstated
Why Google suspends Business Profiles, how to fix the cause, what evidence to submit in the appeals tool, and what to do if your appeal is denied.
Key takeaways
- Find out whether the profile or your whole Google Account is restricted. Account restrictions get appealed first.
- Read the reason shown in the appeals tool and fix the profile before you appeal.
- Submit matching documents: the name and address must match the profile.
- Never create a duplicate profile while you wait. It makes things worse.
- Prevention is cheaper than reinstatement: a real name, a real address or service area, and honest reviews.
If your Google Business Profile is suspended, fix whatever breaks Google's guidelines first, then submit one appeal through the official Google Business Profile appeals tool with documents that prove your business is real and matches the profile, such as a business license, registration, tax certificate or utility bill. Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google says appeal reviews can take up to five business days, and each decision can be appealed only once, so it pays to get the appeal right the first time. If it is denied, you can request an additional review with new evidence.
Suspended, disabled or just restricted?
Not every warning in Business Profile means the same thing. Check which one you are dealing with:
- Profile suspended or disabled. The profile is removed from public view, and owners and managers can't act on it. Google's help page on suspended or disabled profiles explains the appeal process.
- Account restricted. If your Google Account itself breaks policy, every profile you manage is suspended and you can't create or claim others. You appeal the account from your Google "My accounts" page first, then appeal each profile.
- Review restrictions. If Google finds fake or incentivized reviews, it may block new reviews, unpublish existing ones for a set period, or show a warning to customers. These Business Profile restrictions have their own appeal.
- Rejected edits. A single edit (name, category, address) can be rejected while the profile stays live. That is a content decision, not a suspension.
Common reasons Google suspends a Business Profile
Google's guidelines for representing your business list what is and isn't allowed. These are the rules most relevant to local service businesses.
Keywords or extra text in the business name
Your name must match your real-world name on signage, stationery and your website. Adding services or cities ("Smith Plumbing – 24/7 Emergency Plumber Dallas") is not allowed and, per Google, "could result in the suspension of your Business Profile."
An address you don't actually operate from
P.O. boxes, remote mailboxes and virtual offices aren't eligible. Co-working spaces only qualify with clear signage, staff on site during business hours and customers received there. If you work from home and travel to customers, set up as a service-area business and hide the address.
Service area problems
Service-area businesses should have one profile for their base location. Google says the service area generally shouldn't extend farther than about two hours' driving time from where the business is based. See Google's service area help.
Duplicate or multiple profiles
One profile per business location. Extra "location" profiles in towns where you have no staffed office break this rule.
Phone numbers and websites that redirect
The phone number must be under your direct control and connect to that location. URLs or numbers that redirect to someone else's landing page aren't allowed.
Wrong or stuffed categories
Choose the fewest categories that describe what your business is, not every service it offers.
Fake engagement
Paying for reviews, offering discounts in exchange for them, or posting reviews of your own business breaks Google's prohibited content policy. Fake reviews are also illegal under the FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials.
Ineligible business types
Some businesses can't be service-area only. Google names businesses tied to age-restricted products such as alcohol, cannabis or weapons as examples.
How to get your Google Business Profile reinstated: step by step
Step 1: Don't panic, and don't start over
Google is explicit: "Do not create a new Business Profile for the same business." A new profile won't carry over your reviews and is likely to be treated as a duplicate.
Step 2: Open the appeals tool and read the decision
Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool (linked from Google's suspended profiles help page) while signed in to the Google Account that owns the profile. Select the profile and the decision. The tool shows the date, the reason, a link to the policy and whether the decision can be appealed.
Step 3: Fix the cause before you appeal
Compare your profile with the policy Google linked to. Common fixes:
- Rename the profile to your exact legal or trade name
- Remove a virtual-office address and switch to a service area
- Shrink an oversized service area
- Replace a tracking or redirect number with a local number you control
- Trim categories to the ones that describe what you are
- Make sure the name, address and phone match your website and main directories
Step 4: Gather evidence that matches the profile
Google lists these as evidence that can strengthen an appeal:
- Official business registration
- A business license
- Tax certificates
- Utility bills for the business (electricity, phone, water, internet)
Check that the business name and address on each document match the profile. A contractor's state license, a storefront photo showing permanent signage, or a vehicle with your branding can help explain your situation, but put the official documents first.
Step 5: Submit one clear appeal
Upload the files and use the text box to explain, briefly and factually, what the business is, how it serves customers and what you corrected. Google notes appeals can only be submitted once per decision, so attach everything before you check the confirmation box and submit.
Step 6: Track the status
The tool shows one of five statuses: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can't be appealed, or Eligible for appeal. Google's content and profile appeals page says reviews and decisions can take up to five business days and asks you not to submit multiple appeals for the same issue.
Step 7: If it's denied, request an additional review
Only after a denial, you can request an additional review and add evidence you didn't include the first time. If you are in the EEA, extra redress options may apply. If the profile comes back but something is broken, contact Google Business Profile Help.
Managing more than 10 profiles?
Multi-location businesses with 10 or more suspended profiles can request bulk reinstatement in the same tool. You'll attach a spreadsheet with each Business Profile ID plus supporting documents, and the name and address on each document must match your registration.
How to avoid another suspension
- Use your real-world business name, nothing more.
- Keep one profile per real, staffed location.
- Hide your address if customers don't visit you.
- Make big changes (name, address, category) one at a time and only when they're true.
- Give agency staff manager access rather than sharing the owner login. If a manager's account is suspended, Google suspends that manager, not your locations.
- Get reviews the honest way: ask every customer, never pay or filter.

Questions about this topic
How long does Google Business Profile reinstatement take?
Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to five business days. A denied appeal followed by an additional review takes longer. You'll get an email with the decision, and you can check the status in the appeals tool.
Will I lose my reviews if my profile is suspended?
Reviews aren't visible while the profile is suspended. Google says that when it reinstates a profile, it reinstates the profile along with its owners and managers. Creating a new profile instead starts you from zero.
Can I create a new profile while my old one is suspended?
No. Google specifically says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business. A duplicate can be suspended too and can complicate your appeal.
What documents does Google accept for a reinstatement appeal?
Google lists official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills (electricity, phone, water or internet). The business name and address on the documents should match the profile you're appealing.
Why was my profile suspended when I didn't change anything?
Google can review a profile's existing information at any time, not only after an edit. Check the reason in the appeals tool, then compare your name, address, service area, phone and categories against Google's guidelines. Start with anything added years ago, such as keywords in the name or an address you no longer staff.
Can an agency get my profile reinstated faster?
No one can speed up Google's review or guarantee reinstatement. An experienced agency can help you identify the real cause, correct the profile and assemble the right evidence, which improves the quality of the single appeal you get.
